Welcome back, it is another Monday Morning out in Oakland California, and as such Mixtape Monday is back with Volume XVI – “Trap in the Honkey’s Palace”. This weeks vibes are all over the place, we got some trap, some funk, punk, etc etc, everything hip hop can fuse with we got it. So roll up, pop in the tape, and kick it with The Game, Anderson Paak, Sonyae, Thundercat, Fly Lo, Consequence, The Internet, Chance The Rapper, Mick Jenkins, P.O.S, Isaiah Rashad, J.Cole, Pusha T, Travi$ Scott, Jay Prince, Allan Kingdom, Vince Staples, Joey Purp, Vic Mensa, Blackalicious and Lizzo.
Mixtape Monday is back this week with Volume XV – “You All Look Like Beautiful Stars Tonight”. We had Zach Hing guest mixing last week, but I’m glad to be back in the booth this with some sounds way outside of my normal wheelhouse, some of the sounds from my childhood, mixed in with the sounds that inspired one of my favorite albums – that just happened to celebrate it’s fifth anniversary yesterday.
To kick off this twisted fantasy we have Mike Oldfield, The Rolling Stones, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin, Gil Scott-Heron, Tony Joe White, Wild Cherry, Lyn Collins, Rick James, Manu Dibango, Tony Allen, Harold Melvin & The Blue Notes, Manfred Mann’s Earth Band and Aphex Twin. Its some wild shit, and I’m sure you’ll enjoy!
Fellow Fault and Fracture member, musician and illustrator XTreme Zach Hing takes the reigns this week for this edition of Mixtape Monday!
This week’s mixtape “Back to You’ is all the songs we’re used to hearing, heartbreaks, hard times, just about anything that gets you down, but with a bit of a twist. Yes its love and all, but because its told from the likes of David Ryan Harris, Chris Stapleton, John Mayer, and others, it makes us wanna sing along and keep that record playing. Cheers to silly love songs, to the good ones we care to play over and over again.
What a wild ass week. We’re all in here at CCA right now and I’m hanging onto my ass like the damn thing got a mind of it’s own and is heading for the border. And even with that in mind, I’m seeing people working and grinding harder than myself, and damn that’s inspiring – so this week’s Mixtape Monday Vol. XIII – “She Works Harder Than Me” – this is out to you. Keep grinding. We got some hard hitters this week, and a bit of a coaster with it. We got Christian Scott, Sly & The Family Stone, and Kool and the Gang providing dope ass jazz interludes, with the first section of bangers coming in with Travi$ Scott, Lizzo and her new record, Angel Haze, RTJ, Earl Sweatshirt, Drake, and then closing the mix off with D’Angelo, Allan Kingdom, J.Cole, J Dilla, Big Sean, The Weeknd, Kendrick Lamar and Jay-Z himself.
I hope ya’ll have a great Monday, and get some of those tedious Monday tasks done in style. Fuck with it hard all day, then get home at watch Master of None. Really do it. Until then, enjoy!
Coming off the heels of a wild ass last minute trip to Yosemite, Mixtape Monday Vol. XII – “Grab the Roland n Jet” is here! After a few weeks of being ill it’s nice being back on the mic! We got some wild ass sounds this week, some riding around the 80’s New Wave era and renaissance with some amazing synths, drums, and vocals. So pop on your head phones, your dancing kicks, and vibe out with some pastel colorways as we get down!
