“Blessings” – Mixtape Monday Vol. XXXVII Part I & II

37

Gottdamn. What a week it has been, new art, new music, new festivals. What a time to be alive. I’m incredibly thankful for all these blessings, hence the titled and focus of this week’s Mixtape Monday Volume XXXVII.

This week’s mix is a double feature, with the Part I focusing on the rock and roll psychedelic vibes that have had the Bay in a mood for decades with artists like The Byrds, The Zombies, Jefferson Airplane, Motion, The Doors, The Monkees, Kristin Diable, Janis Joplin, Nancy Sinatra, The Rolling Stones, Chyvonne Scott, Freddie Scott, and Oakland’s very own Fantastic Negrito.

Part II takes things back to hip hop, with Travi$ Scott, Big K.R.I.T., Kendrick Lamar, Angel Haze, Clipse, OutKast, Chance the Rapper, Freeway, JAY Z, Beanie Seagel, The Game, Lance, Dr. Dre, and Vic Mensa.

This week’s mix is super exciting because it features several friends and colleague’s of mine, and their fresh new projects. We have songs from Fantastic Negrito’s debut album “The Last Days of Oakland”, which I designed and illustrated, Lance//Fuze the MC’s “Lance is a Genius” second LP, and Vic Mensa’s debut EP “There’s a Lot Going On”. Very aptly titled. It’s a good time for music, I hope you enjoy.

Thesis // Mixtape Monday: Liberated

mixtapemonday

All well and done, here is my finishing collection of works from my time at California College of the Arts Illustration Program. I built an album around a collection of songs, essentially building off the “Mixtape Monday” efforts I had been doing for the past several months.

Bellow is the album’s songs, and the pieces themselves, which can be viewed in totality @¬†iamnfrancis.com/my-product/thesis. The art was built into an album, CD and Vinyl, along with several posters and T Shirts – which will be available online shortly.

Mixtape Monday Vol. XXXIII – “They Said Repent”

elkennardmixtape33

Happy Monday everyone! I’m off in New York right now so my friend Emeric has taken over the Mixtape Monday duties for the week – with quite the eclectic group of songs from many wonderful musicians such as David Gilmore, Dessa, Caught A Ghost, Counting Crows, Was (Not Was), The Royal Swazi Spa, Chet Faker, Vijay Iyer, SZA, Lorde, Leonard Cohen, Tina Dico, Elbow and Lianne La Havas.

This strangely jazz/classic infusion of music is a perfect start to what might very well be a wild week. Enjoy!

Mixtape Monday Vol. XXXII – “FREE//DOM”

32

Ayyyyyyyyyye good morning everyone, I’m tired as hell so I’m gonna keep this brief. Welcome back to Mixtape Monday, Volume XXXII – “FREE//DOM”. So starting this week things are going to run a little differently, I’ll be posting playlists using TIDAL + Mixcloud, from now on. I’ve been meaning to make the switch to Tidal for awhile given their string of exclusives, but this week was the final push – we lost Prince, and this week’s mix serves as a personal thank you and good bye – so it obviously needed a couple of Prince tracks. Which are only available on Tidal. So from now on the playlists will be posted in that format, and the whole thing will be uploaded as a Mixcloud link, for those of you without Tidal – I’ll go back to doing intros and outros for those once the semester is over and I have more time.

SO. This week’s mix serves as a lil outro to Prince leaving us, it’s not all Prince related – but it felt like the right vibe to say THANK YOU. This week we have Adrian Daniel, Frank Ocean, Rick Fames, Sheila E., Judith Hill, Kamaiyah, Prince himself, Stevie Wonder, Diana Ross, Marvin Gaye, Smokey Robinson, Stevie Nicks, Janelle Monae, Jamila Woods, Beyonce, Kendrick Lamar, Floetry, and MC Hammer. Enjoy
